There's this moment I'll never forget from my childhood.
We took swimming at one of the local swimming pools. My brothers-I think there were only 2 that could walk at the time- and I would carpool with the neighbors to this stinky-chlorine saturated pool on a bi-weekly basis. We did alright, there were no medals being won, but we enjoyed splashing around.
Then came parent day.
Dad was at work or out of town and Mom was on her own. We did a few things as a class, parents clapped as their little water babies made progress. Mom, who was petrified of water, clapped nervously. The finale was us jumping off the diving board. The kids all lined up, each taking their turn walking the board, and jumping--being the little lemmings that we are at that age.
My turn came, I walked, she screamed, I never was brought back to the pool again....
Sure I've taught myself doggie paddling, I've jumped off cliffs and made my way to the side, but I've never properly learned how to swim.
This is the year. West Hollywood has a public pool AND decent priced lessons. I'm sure it won't take much, well, a bit to unlearn the make-shift swimming I've taught myself through the years...but it will happen:)
Talk about checking your ego at the door!!!

Crossfit is hard
All I can feel is the ache in my muscles.
I did my first REAL Crossfit class on Tuesday, I was supposed to go back today but work got in the way. So I went home, took a hot bath, ate some spicy Ramen, and now even though I still feel the ache, I feel like a real girl.
The workout for my first time was for points.
Basically it's that easy, you get points for every RX'd* item you complete. I didn't write down my points, it was my first time, and it didn't seem like a good idea.
Though I have to remember that this is a jumping off place. How on earth can I see how far I've come, if I don't write anything down?? So, next week I have to remember a couple of things.

-check that ego at the door.
and nevermind those whip marks from the jump rope from attempting double unders, they are merely kisses.
I'm not going to lie to you. My energy level is at an all time low. Something to keep in mind is that it is all about balance, but sometimes it takes time to balance all that stuff out.
Make the time, do the work, fuel efficiently, and it will show up. I have a buddy who is utterly RIPPED, we swapped fitness stories while drinking a pint or 20 on St. Patty's. As a Paleo (except drinking:)) follower, his results are amazing.
However, the thought of eating 2 chicken breasts a day makes me want to slit my wrists.
Lets do this!!

All the F words that mean the world to me.
Oh yeah, and Forty...that's what it's all about this year.
Fabulousness at 40.
There are a lot of people that look at 40 as the beginning of the end.
There are others that look at it as merely the beginning.
I'm not really sure what it means to me because I don't feel any different. I still wake up in the morning, go to work, punch things, go on adventures, hang out with some of the best people on the planet, eat delicious food, and besides the fact that bruises take WAY TO F*CKING LONG to heal...things don't feel much different.
And you know, in a way, I want them to.
That's what gave me the inspiration to start this blog.
Usually I'm one for a billion words, but I'll leave it short and sweet.
It's getting late and the Descendants is on HBO.
Lets see where this takes us....

F*kin' Monday
Last night I was rudely awoken by what sounded like the scurry of little footsteps on my roof. Course when I came to my senses there was nothing but dead air, and since I was up--might as well pee. Then it took 4 billon years to get back to sleep.
It's these little nuggets that make for the most fabulous of Monday AMs, or as I like to say "f*ckin' Monday". The alarm always goes off way too early, even though its right on time, and the process of getting ready seems like a waste of time.
When I was a kid, my Mom gave me an option--either be ready at a certain time and she would do my hair--or I could sleep in and look like a vagabond.
Naturally I chose vagabond, in my life--sleep always wins. Not until I learned to maneuver myself around a curling iron, did I ever look presentable or face it, like a real girl.
Thinking back on these memories I smile. Not much has changed, in fact the invention dry shampoo has allowed me at least 30 min of snooze...
So here we are--Monday--1st entry in the F word blog, using the actual F word.

F*ck Yeah Fitness!!!!
Fitness is an obsession of mine.
For the last 4 years, I have learned a few things about working out.
a) I'm frumpy if I don't do it, and frumpy has a funny way of making you look "eh" in everything.
b) The treadmill is not an option, it's like watching paint dry.
c) Weight machines are intimidating and can injure you like nobody's business.
d) Weight lifting however, makes a girl feel AMAZING!!!!!
e) "GO BIG OR GO HOME" is the only way of working out...for me
It's the very last one that I learned when I discovered Muay Thai. I never knew that working out could teach me so many things. Patience, stability, balance, limits, nutrition, not to mention the ability to kick ass brings on a confidence that is indescribable. Confidence that follows me into all walks of life.
Now I'm starting at square one again with Crossfit. The gym that I decided to go with also teaches Muay Thai, so I'm able to feed the demon in me, as well hit the humble beginnings of "how the Sam hell do I do this handstand push-up????"
